2009 NFL Midseason Awards

Houston Texans v Indianapolis Colts

Can you believe were halfway through the season already?  As fast as it seems the second half will go by even quicker.

Enough talk, it’s time to hand out some awards.

MVP: Peyton Manning

Manning could win this award every year, but this year especially he is playing phenomenal.  Despite breaking in new receivers and a less than stellar running game, Manning is playing arguably the best football of his career.  He has passed for 300 yards or more in seven out the eight games, leading the Colts to a 8-0 record.

Runner Up: Drew Brees

Offensive Player of the Year: Chris Johnson

Despite playing for the 2-6 Titans, Johnson have been playing on a different planet.  He is the ultimate big play threat and is leading the league in rushing avergaing a ridiculous 6.7 yards per carry.  He is currently just off a 2,000 yard pase.

Runner Up: Drew Brees

Defensive Player of the Year: Jared Allen

Allen have been a terror off the edge this season and has 10.5 sacks through half of the season.  He has saved his best for the biggest games, notching 7.5 sacks in the two games versus the Packers.

Runner Up: Darren Sharper

Offesnive Rookie of the Year: Percy Harvin

The ultra talented rookie has been a key component for the Vikings.  He has been a good slot guy in the passing guy and has been explosive on kick returns.  He has added another dimension to this offense.

Runner Up: Mark Sanchez

Defensive Rookie of the Year: Jarius Byrd

The ball-hawking safety from Oregon has had seven interceptions this season, all coming in the last four games.  Those seven interceptions have him tied atop the leader board with Darren Sharper.
