NFL Week 7 Suicide Pick
I played it safe last week going with the Steelers and it payed off.
There were two big upsets last week and finally some people were eliminated from your suicide pool. The Eagles were obviously the big upset victim and a few people probably took the Jets as well.
This week there are a few teams that I’m liking. Now onto the pick for this week:
Teams already used:
Week 1: Seattle Seahawks: Win
Week 2: Green Bay Packers: Loss
Week 3: Baltimore Ravens: Win
Week 4: New York Giants Win
Week 5: Dallas Cowboys Win
Week 6: Pittsburgh Steelers Win
The pick for Week 7 is the Carolina Panthers
The Panthers come into this game on a two game winning streak after starting the season 0-3. The Panthers finally got back to what they do last week, running the ball, and payed off big against the Bucs.
The Bills did win last week against the Jets but it’s hard to say that they actually won the game. The Jets handed the game to the Bills on a silver platter and they still needed a last second field goal in overtime in win. The Bills will also be starting Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback, due to Trent Edwards injury. Fitzpatrick completed just 40% of his passes last week after he came in for Edwards and in his 12 starts last year with Cincinnati he amassed a 70.0 qb rating.
Last week the Panthers ran for 267 yards against the Bucs and had DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart rush for over 100 yards. This Bills on the other hand, gave up 310 yards, yes 310, to the Jets last week. I expect the Panthers to keep the formula they used last week and get a nice victory over the Bills as they climb back to .500.
Final Score: Panthers 23 Bills 10
In case you have used the Steelers here are some other teams I like this week:
Patriots over the Bucs- After the Pats beat the Titans 59-0 last week, how much are they gonna beat the Bucs by?
Colts over the Rams- This one should be over by halftime.
Jets over the Raiders- A risky pick, but his looks like a rebound game for the Jets.
NFL Suicide Pick: Week 6
I rolled the dice a bit last week going with the Cowboys and boy did they cut it close. But thanks to Miles Austin, the Boys pulled out the win in overtime. In suicide pools it doesn’t matter how your team wins as long as they do and that’s what the Boys did. This week is another big week for favorites as there are five teams favored by 10 points or more so you should have your fair share of options for this week. Now onto the pick for this week:
Teams already used:
Week 1: Seattle Seahawks: Win
Week 2: Green Bay Packers: Loss
Week 3: Baltimore Ravens: Win
Week 4: New York Giants Win
Week 5: Dallas Cowboys Win
The pick for Week 6 is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers come into this game on a two game winning streak and feeling good after getting off to a 1-2 start. Rashard Mendenhall has been great recently filling in for Willie Parker, and appears to be the answer for their ground game woes.
The defense has not been playing so well since Troy Polamalu but playing the Browns should fix that. They did finally start to get to quarterback last week though, sacking Daunte Culpepper 7 times. Last year’s defensive player of the year, James Harrison, had three sacks and his partner in crime, LaMarr Woodley, had 1.5 sacks, his first sacks of the season. The seoncdary gets to face Derek Anderson, who was only 2 for 17 last week and that was against the Buffalo Bills.
The Browns did win last week but the odds of them winning two in a row are slim to none. The Steelers are at home and they won’t overlook a divisonal opponent. Expect the Steelers to cruise to an easy victory.
Final Score: Steelers 35 Browns 10
In case you have used the Steelers here are some other teams I like this week:
Jets over the Bills- Rex Ryan’s bunch is upset about the last second loss and what better way than to take it out against the Bills.
Eagles over the Raiders- They’re playing the Raiders. Enough said.
Jaguars over the Rams- If your feeling risky this week, the Jags are the pick. The 41-0 blowout loss last week prevented them from being my official selection this week, but they should win this week at home.
NFL Suicide Pick: Week 5
There weren’t any big upsets last week and very few people, if any, were eliminated last week in your pool. It has been a down year for big upsets, but don’t worry if almost everyone is still remaining in your pool. The upsets are coming, you just have to be patient. My pick last week, the Giants, played ahead the whole game and were never really tested against the Chiefs. There are a lot of big favorites this week, giving you plenty of options of who to pick. Now onto week 5:
Teams already used:
Week 1: Seattle Seahwaks: Win
Week 2: Green Bay Packers: Loss
Week 3: Baltimore Ravens: Win
Week 4: New York Giants Win
The pick for week 5 is the Dallas Cowboys.
This now marks the second straight week I’m picking against the Chiefs at Arrowhead. It’s a shame what has become of what once was one of the best home field advantages in the game. While the the final score of the Chiefs-Giants game read 27-16, the game was never close. The Giants got out to a 27-3 lead and the Chiefs scored two touchdowns in garbage time to make the game appear somewhat close but the result was never in doubt.
Meanwhile, for the Cowboys this game is huge. Lucky for them they get the Chiefs. The Chiefs are just what the doctor ordered for Tony Romo. Romo has failed to throw a touchdown in two weeks an has been ineffective in three out of four games. Eli threw for three scores and almost 300 yards last week, Kevin Kolb put up even better numbers, and JaMarcus Russell led a game winning drive against them. I expect Romo to put up about 250 yards and 2 scores. Also the Cowboys strong point, their running game, should have a field day against the porous run defense of the Chiefs.
On the other side the Chiefs can’t do anything on offense. The running game is non existent and the only weapon on the offense is Dwayne Bowe, who is now being doubled by defenses. I’m sorry but Bobby Wade and Sean Ryan aren’t going to keep defensive coordinators up all night. This should be a nice rebound game for the ‘Boys after a tough loss in Denver last week.
Final Score: Cowboys 28 Chiefs 16
In case you have used one of the team I have taken here are some other teams I like:
Steelers over the Lions- The Steelers got rolling last week with their win against the Chargers and they should keep it going in Detroit.
Eagles over the Bucs- They Eagles get McNabb and Westbrook back and have had a bye week to prepare for the Bucs.
Vikings over the Rams- They’re playing the Rams. That’s all you need to know.
Suicide Pick: Week 4
It was a stress free week 3 as my pick, the Baltimore Ravens, absolutely demolished the Cleveland Browns. Elsewhere around the league there was only one upset, the Lions over the Redskins, but I hope you didn’t pick the Skins after their performance against the Rams two weeks ago. Through 3 weeks of the season there still hasn’t been that one huge upset that knocks out a bunch of people.
Now onto to this week:
Teams already used:
Week 1: Seattle Seahwaks: Win
Week 2: Green Bay Packers: Loss
Week 3: Baltimore Ravens: Win
The pick for week 4 is the New York Giants.
These are two teams that are going into two opposite directions right now. The Giants are clicking all cylinders while the Chiefs are struggling to do anything. Their suspect passing game has proved all the naysayers wrong so far as Steve Smith and Mario Manningham are forming quite the tandem. Also Ahmad Bradshaw has picked up the slack left by Derrick Ward averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Their defense completely shit down the Tampa Bay offense last week holding them to only 86 total yards. With the Chiefs failing to manage 200 yards last week it could be a long day at Arrowhead. If you are worried about picking the Giants because they are on the road, take a look at the Chiefs record in their last seven home games: 0-7.
The Chiefs on the other hand are looking terrible so far. They have had very ugly performances in their two games, losing to the Raiders and the Eagles. They let Kevin Kolb tear them apart last week and let JaMarcus Russell actually win a game. Their offense is looking so hot either. Larry Johnson is a shell of his former self and Dwayne Bowe is iffy to play this week. Cassel had looked mediocre but the departure of Tony Gonzalez has clearly hurt the team.
Final Score: Giants 27 Chiefs 10
In case you use one of the teams I have already sed here are some other teams I like:
Colts over the Seahawks- The red hot Colts get the Seneca Wallace led Seahawks at home. Enough said.
Texans over the Raiders- This is a bit of risk but I wouldn’t worry too much. The Texans are at home are a win would get them back to .500. Don’t forget they are playing JaMarcus Russell.
Suicide Pick: Week 3
It was a rough week last week as I picked the Packers who went on to lose at home to the Bengals. They weren’t the only upset though, as the Titans, another popular pick, also went down. The other popular picks, the Redskins and Vikings, survived scares but went on to win. Week 3 poses some intriguing match ups to look at.
Teams already used:
Week 1: Seattle Seahwaks: Win
Week 2: Green Bay Packers: Loss
The pick for week 3 is the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens have looked like a different team this year as they are showing off an explosive offense which has scored 69 points in two games. Joe Flacco has made a considerable leap in his second year and Ray Rice and Willis McGahee are forming quite the one-two punch in the backfield. Also Todd Heap has had a resurgence and is playing like its three years ago.
This week the 0-2 Browns come to town fresh off two spankings. The Browns defense is ripe for the picking allowing 61 points in their two games. Brady Quinn has looked average at best and there are already some people calling for Derek Anderson and they have had no running game to speak of. The Ravens looked impressive winning on the road a San Diego last week and even though this is a divisional game it doesn’t matter. The Ravens have the Patriots next week but guys like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed won’t allow the team to overlook this game.
Final Score: Ravens 30 Browns 13
In case you have used one of the teams I’ve picked here are some other team I like:
Giants over the Bucs- he passing game is clicking and the Bucs secondary is in shambles.
Eagles over the Chiefs- I’m a little nervous about Kolb, but after seeing what their defense did to Delhomme imagine what they will do to Cassel.
Suicide Pick: Week 2
If you listened to me last week your still alive as is pretty much everyone as their were no big upsets in week one. But look on the bright side, you used a team that you probably wouldn’t have used the rest of the season (Seahawks) and still have the great teams left (Pats, Chargers, and Saints). Another bonus, you avoided a potential heart attack watching the Pats and Chargers barely coming away victorious.
Teams already used:
Week 1: Seattle Seahwaks: Win
Now onto week 2. There are no lopsided games this week but there are still a few attractive options.
The pick for week 2 is the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers, coming of an impressive win over the Bears, get the Bengals in their home opener. The Bengals are still reeling after losing to the Broncos on a hail mary and their consolation is to go into Lambeau Field and take on the Packers. Not the easiest of tasks but hey, Chad Ochocinco (still can’t get used to typing that) has guaranteed a Lambeau Leap if he scores.
On a serious note the Packers defense looked like a completely different unit from last year against the Bears. They got pressure, were swarming to the ball, and of course picked off Jay Cutler four times. The Bengals n the other hand only managed to score only seven points against the Broncos defense! Other than Brian Dawkins, who is past his prime, the Broncos don’t have another good starter on their defense. And they scored all their points in the final minute. So let’s get this straight; they scored only seven points against one of the worst defenses in the league and were shit out by them for 59 minutes. Sounds like a mismatch to me.
Final Score: Green Bay 27 Cincinnati 10
Suicide Pick: Week 1
Week 1
The pick for week 1 is the Seattle Seahawks.
Now hear me out on this one before you start hating on the pick. Week One is always the toughest to predict because you don’t know how teams will preform. That is why I like to stay away from the big favorites the first week. Last year the Chargers were a big favorite over the Panthers and they lost. In 2007 the Packers beat the Eagles who were a popular pre season Super Bowl pick. I could go on but I think you get the point. That’s why I’m not touching the Saints, Patriots, and Ravens this week.
Meanwhile the Seahawks the lowly Rams at home this week. Matt Hasselbeck is 100% healthy and so is their receiving corps which now includes T.J. Houshmandzadeh. The Seahawks are a much better team than their 4-12 record from last year indicates and they are out for a vengeance this year. The Rmas were awful last year and haven’t gotten much better. Expect the Seahwaks secondary to feast on Marc Bulger all day as they defeat the Rams 27-13.
