Rachel Alexander Holds On
Rachel Alexander has done it again. The filly survived a late charge from Macho Again to win the Woodward Stakes.
In doing so Rachel Alexander became the first filly to win the race in its 56 runnings and was only the second three year ever to run in the race.

Rachel Alexander wins the Woodward but were left wondering if we will see her race against Zenyatta.
This win marked her nith victory in a row and third against the boys.
She ran the 1 1/8 mile track in 1:48:29 and paid $2.60 on a $2 bet.
This wins just adds to the remarkable and historical year Rachel Alexander has had. Highlights included wiining the Kentucky Oaks by a record 20 1/4 lengths, becoming the first filly in 85 years to win the Preakness Stakes, and and beating the boys at the Haskell Inviatational.
As for when Rachel Alexander will race again the answer is unknown. Her owner, Jess Jackson, has already stated she will not race in the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita.
With this win added to her resume Rachel Alexander has all but wrapped up Horse of the Year honors and would become the first three year old filly since 1944 o take home the honors.
Her main competition for the award is the five year old Zenyatta. There has been much talk of a race involving both horses but as of now it is all just talk.
The most likely scenario for a race would be at the Beldame Stakes on October 3rd at Belmont. Owner Jess Jackson said “If Zenyatta should come to the Beldame that would certainly direct us to that race.” While that is not a guarantee we can all hope to see the race everyone is clamoring for.

Summer Bird Wins Belmont, Rachel Alexander News
A bird did end winning the Belmont but unfortunately is wasn’t the one we all though would win.
Summer Bird who was listed as 12-1 odds came away with win after a great stretch run where it went from fourth to first.
It turns out that both Summer Bird and Mine That Bird are sired by Birdstone, who won the Belmont in 2004. Mine That Bird finished in third and thus Calvin Borel did not win his own jockey Triple Crown after winning the Derby with Mine That Bird and the Preakness with Rachel Alexander.

Rachel Alexander Out of Belmont
Rachel Alexander owner Jess Jackson announced yesterday that Preakness Stakes winner Rachel Alexander will not race in the Belmont Stakes
next week. While this was expected the no decision on Monday fueled hopes that the filly might race in the Belmont. Jackson said in a press release “We know the media and many fans would have liked to see her run in the Belmont Stakes – we feel the same. But all of us sincerely interested in the horse must agree that we only want to see her run when it is best for her. While she is in great shape, having strong works, and recovering well from her amazing performances, we feel Rachel deserves a well-earned vacation…”
Rachel Alexander Uncertain for Belmont
On Monday a decision was expected to made on whether Rachel Alexander would race in the Belmont Stakes on June 6th. Instead owner Jess Jackson said the horses status was still uncertain for the Belmont. He went on to say that a decision is expected to be made by next week.
Rachel Alexander worked out for the first time since the Preakness running a half mile and galloping a fifth furlong. The Philly is coming off a dominant performance in the Kentucky Oaks winning by 20 ¼ lengths and then holding off Kentucky Derby Winner Mine That Bird by one length in the her Preakness Stakes victory.
Rachel Alexander Wins Preakness, Belmont Next?
Rachel Alexander won the Preakness Stakes on Saturday becoming the first filly in 85 years to win. With jockey Calvin Borel at the helm Rachel Alexander took the lead early on and was able to hold off Mine That Bird in the end winning by one length, Rachel Alexander did not race in the Kentucky Derby but did race in and win the Kentucky Oaks the day before the Derby.
With the Belmont Stakes coming up in three weeks no decision has been made yet about whether Rachel Alexander will race. Mine That Bird has already committed to racing which could set up a rematch of their battle down the stretch in the Preakness. If Rachel Alexander does decide to race it will mean she three races in five weeks for the filly which is a lot to ask for from any horse. The trainers have said they will take their time in making a decision and will let the horse tell them how she is feeling. If she does race it will give jockey Calvin Borel the opportunity to become the first jockey to win the Triple Crown while riding multiple horses.
