Video: David Garrard Haily Mary TD to Mike Thomas (Gus Johnson Audio)

YouTube Preview Image

The Houston Texans looked like they were in position to potential win the game and get back above .500. Matt Schaub hit Joel Dreessen over the middle to the Jacksonville Jaguars 37, but he proceeded to fumble and the Jaguars recovered. A Marcedes Lewis 11 yard gain and a 5 yard penalty on the Texans set the Jaguars up at midfield with 3 seconds left.

David Garrard took the snap, dropped back in the pocket and heaved a hail mary down the left sideline toward Mike Sims-Walker. Glover Quinn stepped up and batted the ball back – instead of trying to intercept it or spike it – and it fell right into the hands of Mike Thomas who walked into the end zone for the game winning touchdown.

Check out the video to see Gus Johnson’s incredible call of the play. Drama always seems to find him.

FOX, CBS Announcer Pairings

FOX and CBS have set their announcer duos for the upcoming 2010 NFL season.

There isn’t much of a turnover rate from last season, so if you disappointed last year, expect more of the same this year. The glaring difference is that Dick Enberg, who has taken a job to call games on TV for the San Diego Padres. This will be the first time in 40 years that Enberg has not been announcing NFL games. Ian Eagle, will take Enberg’s number three slot for CBS.

The new additions to the booth this year were both in the NFC West last year. They are Jim Mora Jr. and Kurt Warner. Mora Jr. will join Dick Sotckton and Charles Davis on FOX’s number three team. Kurt Warner will be the color man working with either Chris Meyers or Chris Rose on FOX’s number seven team (meaning he won’t work many games).

With FOX having the Super Bowl this year, that mean the much maligned pair of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will be calling Super Bowl XLV in Dallas this February.

The full announcing pairs are listed below:

It’s a absolute tragedy that Gus Johnson is only the number five announcing team on CBS. The guy is one the best in the business and most importantly brings excitement to the game. Watch his call of the thrilling Broncos-Bengals finish in Week 1 last year and tell me that he shouldn’t be higher up on CBS’s pecking order. You can’t.
