NFL Week 9 Power Rankings
The top 2 remain the same but we have a new number 3, the Minnesota Vikings, who knocked the Broncos out of the number 3 hole.
The big winner this week is the Houston Texans. They moved up six spots and now sit at number 11, knocking on the door of the top 10.
The big loser this week is the New York Giants. The Giants once claimed the top spot only 3 weeks ago but now have fallen all the way to down 16 after losing three straight.
1. New Orleans Saints (7-0) –
A big win that creates separation in the NFC South.
2. Indianapolis Colts (7-0) –
Had to grind it out against the 49ers but got the job done.
3. Minnesota Vikings (7-1) +2
Favre saved his best for the Packers.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) –
Had a bye to prepare for the Broncos next week.
5. Denver Broncos (6-1) -2
First loss of the season but they weren’t going to win every game.
6. New England Patriots (5-2) +2
Had a bye last week. Face the Dolphins this week.
7. Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) +1
A season defying win for Eagles over the division rival G-Men.
8. Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) -1
Were idle last week. Big division game versus the Ravens coming up.
9. Baltimore Ravens (4-3) +3
The defense showed why they are considered one of the best.
10. Dallas Cowboys (5-2) +3
Getting hot now but have to play the just as hot Eagles this week.
11. Houston Texans (5-3) +6
This may finally be the year for the Texans.
12. Green Bay Packers (4-3) -1
The o-line is still the number one concern for the Packers.
13. San Diego Chargers (4-3) +3
Not an impressive win, but a win never the less.
14. Atlanta Falcons (4-3) –
Gave the Saints a good battle but came up short. Luckily, they get the Redskins next week.
15. Arizona Cardinals (4-3) -5
After they beat the Giants in New York they go lay an egg at home against Carolina.
16. New York Giants (5-3) -7
This team is reeling after three losses in a row. Is Eli’s foot bothering him more than he’s letting on?
17. Chicago Bears (4-3) +1
Slaughtered the Browns but Cutler didn’t play great and the o-line allowed four sacks.
18. Miami Dolphins (3-4) +1
Are now 3-0 in the division and 0-4 against everyone else. They play the Pats this week.
19. New York Jets (4-4) -4
Let one slip away against the Dolphins. Have a bye week upcoming to sort things out.
20. San Francisco 49ers (3-4) –
Played the Colts tight but they need to start winning again.
21. Buffalo Bills (3-5) –
Should get Trent Edwards back this week.
22. Carolina Panthers (3-4) +2
Two season firsts: Jake Delhomme didn’t turn the ball over and Steve Smith caught a touchdown
23. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4) –
How did the Jaguars only give M.J.D. only eight carries?
24. Seattle Seahawks (2-5) -2
This year’s version of the Seahawks is starting to look awfully similar to last year’s.
25. Tennessee Titans (1-6) +3
With Vince behind center the Titans get win number one.
26. Oakland Raiders (2-6) -1
They played the Chargers tight both times this season, but unfortunately they lost both games.
27. Washington Redskins (2-5) –
They needed more than a bye week to sort out all their problems.
28. Kansas City Chiefs (1-6) -2
The suspension of Larry Johnson will finally give Jamaal Charles a chance.
29. St. Louis Rams (1-7) +3
The Rams get their first win of the season, albeit against the Lions.
30. Detroit Lions (1-6) -1
No Calvin Johnson has hurt them the past few weeks.
31. Cleveland Browns (1-7) -1
Derek Anderson finally got benched for Brady Quinn.
32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7) -1
Josh Freeman had a bye to prepare for his first career start.
NFL Power Rankings: Week 6
We head into week 6 now and were really starting to see separation between teams. Has there ever been so many bad teams as there are now?
The big mover this week is the Cincinnati Bengals who climbed into the top ten coming in at 9, up 6 spots from last week.
The big loser this week is the Buffalo Bills who after losing at home to the lowly Browns, drop 6 spots all the way down to 29.
1. New York Giants (5-0) –
The G-Men showed no signs of slowing team steamrolling the Raiders.
2. New Orleans Saints (4-0) –
Off this past week. A big showdown at home against the Giants this week.
3. Indianapolis Colts (5-0) –
Peyton is on fire and the defense gets Bob Sanders back after the bye.
4. Minnesota Vikings (5-0) –
So far so good for the Brett Favre experiment.
5. Denver Broncos (5-0) +5
Josh McDaniels has the Broncos riding high now fresh off a big win over the Belichick and the Pats.
6. Philadelphia Eagles (3-1) +2
McNabb looked great in his return and they found another weapon in Jeremy Maclin.
7. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2) +2
The Steelers are back on track after two straight victories.
8. Atlanta Falcons (3-1) +5
Got Michael Turner and Roddy White rolling in their dismantling of the 49ers.
9. Cincinnati Bengals (4-1) +6
I’m still not completely sold on the Bengals but u can’t argue with wins over Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
10.Baltimore Ravens (3-2) -5
The Ravens has dropped two straight close games albeit with questionable officiating in both.
11. New York Jets (3-2) -5
The Jets were overwhelmed by the Wildcat but Braylon Edwards looked like the real deal.
13. New England Patriots (3-2) -5
Belichick loses to his pupil. I think it’s safe to say these aren’t the Pats of years past.
13. Chicago Bears (3-1) -1
Had the week off to prepare for a big showdown against the Falcons on Sunday night.
14. San Diego Chargers (2-2) –
Were on the bye and have an enormous game on MNF against the Broncos for control of the division.
15. San Francisco 49ers (3-2) -4
A week after blowing out the Rams the 49ers get smacked by the Falcons.
16. Green Bay Packers (2-2) –
Hopefully they used the bye week to fix their o-line issues.
17. Dallas Cowboys (3-2) –
Didn’t deserve to beat the Chiefs but escaped with win thanks to tremendous play of Miles Austin.
18. Miami Dolphins (2-3) +3
A big win to get the Dolphins back in the thick of things in the AFC East. Chad Henne looked like the real deal on MNF.
19. Seattle Seahawks (2-3) +3
The Seahawks are a different team with Matt Hasselbeck at the helm.
20. Arizona Cardinals (2-2) –
Huge goal line stand to beat the Texans. Finally got Larry Fitz involved more.
21. Houston Texans (2-3) -2
A furious comeback comes up short against the Cardinals. It’s time to replace Chris Brown as the goal line back.
22. Carolina Panthers (1-3) +3
Salvaged their season, coming back from a 17-2 defecit.
23. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3) -5
It must have been a long plane ride home from Seattle for the Jags.
24. Washington Redksins (2-3) –
Counting down the games until Jim Zorn gets the axe.
25. Detroit Lions (1-4) +2
Gave Pittsburgh a tough battle and were in Steeler territory driving to tie in the final minutes.
26. Tennessee Titans (0-5) –
It’s Vince Young time. What is Jeff Fisher waiting for?
27. Kansas City Chiefs (0-5) +2
Gave the Cowboys everything they had and should have won that game.
28. Cleveland Browns (1-4) +3
It was an ugly win but it was a win.
29. Buffalo Bills (1-4) -6
This team looks nothing like the team that nearly beat the Patriots in week one.
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-5) –
Another tough loss for this young Buccaneers team.
31. Oakland Raiders (1-4) -3
The Raiders don’t even look like an NFL team out there.
32. St. Louis Rams (0-5) –
Actually outplayed the Vikings in the first half but turnovers killed them.
NFL Power Rankings: Week 5
The first quarter of the NFL season is officially over and we head into the second quadrant now. The big mover this week is the San Francisco 49ers who can sniff the top ten after coming it at number 11, moving up 5 spots. The big loser this week is the Tennessee Titans who dropped 6 sports after being embarrassed by the Jaguars.
1. New York Giants (4-0) –
Another thrashing for the G-Men but is Eli ok?
2. New Orleans Saints (4-0) –
The Saints proved they’re for real with a big time win over the Jets.
3. Indianapolis Colts (4-0) +1
Peyton Manning is playing the best football of his career right now.
4. Minnesota Vikings (4-0) +1
Brett takes cares of business and has the Vikings rolling at 4-0.
5. Baltimore Ravens (3-1) -3
I can’t knock them down too much for that loss. They fought hard and if not for a few questionable calls they win that game.
6. New York Jets (3-1) –
A learning experience for Mark Sanchez. Good thing he got it out of the way early on in the season.
7. New England Patriots (3-1) +1
End of the dynasty? Not so fast. The Pats proved they’re contenders.
8. Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) -1
Idle last week and get Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook this week.
9. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2) +2
They needed a win and they came through. The emergence of Rashard Mendenhall could be big for a struggling ground game.
10. Denver Broncos (4-0) +4
They’re 4-0 but the real test is these next four weeks. They face the Pats, Chargers, Ravens, and Steelers.
11. San Francisco 49ers (3-1) +5
All three phases scored in their 35-0 rout against the Rams.
12. Chicago Bears (3-1) +1
Jay Cutler may have shed his pretty boy label with his helicopter leap at the goal line.
13. Atlanta Falcons (2-1) -3
Idle last week and face the 49ers this week.
14. San Diego Chargers (2-2) -5
Looked terrible for the first three quarters. Is L.T. done?
15. Cincinnati Bengals (3-1) +3
Still not completely buying into them after their less than convincing win over the Browns.
16. Green Bay Packers (2-2) -4
Played a good game but need to keep Aaron Rodgers off his back.
17. Dallas Cowboys (2-2) -2
Romo and co. have struggled offensively the last two weeks. The Chiefs should help that.
18. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2)
It looks like they finally have a legit receiver in Mike Sims-Walker.
19. Houston Texans (2-2) +4
It was the Raiders but Steve Slaton showed some signs of life.
20. Arizona Cardinals (1-2) -2
Idle last week. Will look to get their downfield passing game going now.
21. Miami Dolphins (1-3) +3
The first game of the Chad Henne era was a success.
22. Seattle Seahawks (1-3) -1
This season is starting to look awfully similar to last year for the Seahawks.
23. Buffalo Bills (1-3) -4
The offense is a mess right now. Maybe firing their offensive coordinator one week before the season started wasn’t such a good idea.
24. Washington Redskins (2-2) +4
Could they be the worst 2-2 team in the history of the NFL?
25. Carolina Panthers (0-3) –
The bye came at a good time for this team. Delhomme needs to work on his chemistry with the receivers.
26. Tennessee Titans (0-4) -6
Could be staring at a 0-6 start with the Colts and Patriots looming. Did anybody say Vince Young?
27. Detroit Lions (1-3) -1
C’mon. Even the Lions weren’t thinking winning streak.
28. Oakland Raiders (1-3) -1
JaMarucs Russell is quickly approaching Ryan Leaf territory.
29. Kansas City Chiefs (0-4) –
The schedule makers were not kind to the Chiefs. They’re in the middle of four straight games against the NFC East.
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-4) –
Josh Johnson showed some promise in his first start at the helm.
31. Cleveland Browns (0-4) +1
They almost tied! But it does looks like Derek Anderson was the right move.
32. St. Louis Rams (0-4) -1
I feel bad for Steve Spagnuolo. The talent on this team is severely lacking.
Power Rankings: Week 4
Now three weeks in, we are learning some more about this season. There seems to be a big drop off right after the Bengals at 17 and the rest of the teams are jammed together. The big movers this week are the Colts, Broncos, and Bengals who all moved up five spots. The big loser this week is the Pittsburgh Steelers who fell eight spots after letting a 11 point lead slip away.
1. New York Giants (3-0) –
Pitched a shutout against the Bucs completely dominating them in every aspect of the game.
2. Baltimore Ravens (3-0) –
The offense is looking very dangerous and you can’t forget about their defense.
3. New Orleans Saints (3-0) +1
Pierre Thomas picking up the slack after a lackluster performance form Drew Brees.
4. Indianapolis Colts (3-0) +5
Peyton Manning is looking great and their not missing a beat without Tony Dungy.
5. Minnesota Vikings (3-0) +1
Needed a little Favre magic to get the win over the 49ers.
6. New York Jets (3-0) +1
Another win for those Jets. Big statement game against the Saints this week.
7. Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) +1
Kevin Kolb is impressing in McNabb’s absence. Could McCoy force a timeshare?
8. New England Patriots (2-1) +2
The Pats aren’t quite dead yet. Brady rebounded and they finally decided to run the ball.
9. San Diego Chargers (2-1) +4
Won without L.T. and they will need him if they want to beat the Steelers next week.
10. Atlanta Falcons (2-1) -5
The Falcons looked pedestrian against the Pats but you can’t penalize them that much.
11. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-2) -8
Lost two straight in the final minute. Could be time to worry with the Chargers coming into time.
12. Green Bay Packers (2-1) -1
The o-line looked better but then gain it was the Rams.
13. Chicago Bears (2-1) -1
Cutler looked sharp again but they’re struggling to get Forte rolling.
14. Denver Broncos (3-0) +5
Where has this defense come from? Brandon Marshall had a good game and had a positive attitude after the game.
15. Dallas Cowboys (2-1) –
The Boys get their first win their new digs without Marion Barber.
16. San Francisco 49ers (2-1) -2
A lot of bad news for the 49ers this week. Lost a heart breaker and lost Frank Gore for a coupe weeks.
NFL Power Rankings: Week 3
Now two weeks in to the season we start to have some moving in the power rankings. We don’t want to crown any teams yet or count anyone out because after all there’s only been two games so far. Were still trying to figure out who are the contenders and who are the pretenders. Here’s out best shot:
1. New York Giants (2-0) ↑1
Their defense picked off Romo three times and it looks like they have some receivers in Steve Smith and Mario Manningham.
2. Baltimore Ravers (2-0) ↑1
The offense looked good again in San Diego and the defense stepped up when needed.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) ↓2
I’m not going to slam the Steelers for losing by a field goal on the road in a game where thier kicked misses two kicks.
4. New Orleans Saints (2-0) ↑5
Can anybody stop the Saints offense after they dropped 48 on a Philly D that made Jake Delhomme look silly the week before.
5. Atlanta Falcons (2-0) ↑2
Another impressive win and great chemistry building between Matt Ryan and Tony Gonzalez.
6. Minnesota Vikings (2-0) -
Another win but they’re beating up on the Browns and Lions.
7. New York Jets (2-0) ↑10
The defensive hasn’t allowed a touchdown yet and Sanchez isn’t playing like anything but a rookie.
8. Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) ↓4
Can’t blame them for losing to the Saints with Kolb at quarterback.
9. Indianapolis Colts (2-0) ↑1
Got the job done despite not having the ball for over three fourths of the game.
10. New England Patriots (1-1) ↓5
A wake up call for Brady and the Pats. Now let’s see how they respond.
11. Green Bay Packers (1-1) ↓3
A bad loss at home and they need to fix the o-line.
12. Chicago Bears (1-1) ↑2
Now everyone understands why the Bears traded for Jay Cutler.
13. San Diego Chargers (1-1) -
Played the Ravens tough without L.T.
14. San Francisco 49ers (2-0) ↑2
Are they the real deal? Frank Gore certainly looked the part.
15. Dallas Cowboys (1-1) ↓3
What a way to open the stadium? Your franchise QB throws 3 picks as you lose at the gun to your arch rivals.
16. Arizona Cardinals (1-1) ↓1
Beat the Jags but they don’t look like the same team as last year.
17. Tennessee Titans (0-2) ↓6
Two close losses and it doesn’t get any easier as they travel to take on the Jets.
18. Buffalo Bills (1-1) -
A Leodis McKelvin away from 2-0. Fred Jackson has made the backfield a 50-50 split.
19. Denver Broncos (2-0) ↑4
Maybe they’re not so bad. But then again it was the Browns.
20. Houston Texans (1-1) ↑4
They looked like a completely different team this week but what’s going on with Steve Slaton?
21. Oakland Raiders (1-1) -
Looked about as bad as you can and still win but they’ll take it.
22. Cincinnati Bengals (1-1) ↑3
A fluke play away from a 2-0 start. Cedric Benson is playing determined football.
23. Miami Dolphins (0-2) ↓1
Dominated the Colts in time of possession but couldn’t close the deal. Have we ever seen a team so inept at running the two minute drills as the Dolphins?
24. Seattle Seahawks (1-1) ↓4
Lost Matt Hasselbeck to injury again but it doesn’t appear to be that serious.
25. Carolina Panthers (0-2) ↑1
After getting embarrassed they came back and fought hard and almost prevailed.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) ↓7
The secondary has gotten torched two weeks in a row.
27. Washington Redskins (1-1) -
A very ugly win as they failed to score a touchdown against one of the worst teams in the league.
28. Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) -
Cassel returned but didn’t impress.
29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-2) -
The secondary again looked awful. Bryon Leftwich might lead the league in attempts.
30. Detroit Lions (0-2) -
Had a couple positives. Matt Stafford threw his first career td and they had the lead at halftime. Stafford also threw two picks and they lost by 14.
31. Cleveland Browns (0-2) -
Were shut down by the Broncos. Braylon Edwards showed some sign of life but Quinn’s job is already being questioned.
32. St. Louis Rams (0-2) -
Other than Steven Jackson this team has no play makers on offense.
NFL Power Rankings: Week 2
One week down in the regular season and with that comes the first edition of our Power Rankings. Pre-season rankings are useless and we won’t get a good idea about whose for real and not for a few weeks but in the meantime heres something to keep you entertained.
1. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0)- The world champs pulled out tight win over the Titans but will be tested now without Troy Polamalu for 3-6 weeks.
2. New York Giants (1-0)- The score may not show it but the Giants dominated the Redskins on Sunday. The receivers played well and that defense is scary.
3. Baltimore Ravens (1-0)- They did play the Chiefs but their offense especailly Joe Flacoo look much improved from last year.
4. Philadelphia Eagles (1-0)- Facing Drew Bress will be a lot harder than Jake Delhomme this week espcially without McNabb.
5. New England Patroits (1-0)- Squeaked out a win but you knew the whole time they were winning that game.
6. Minnesota Vikings (1-0)- A simple gameplan. Give the ball to Adrian Peterson.
7. Atlanta Falcons (1-0)- Matty Ice showed no signs of a sophomore slump and Tony G looked great.
8. Green Bay Packers (1-0)- The defense looked a lot better but they still gave up 341 yards.
9. New Orleans Saints (1-0)- Drew Brees is looking like the MVP front runner and they get the Eagles without McNabb this week.
10. Indianapolis Colts (1-0)- It wasn’t pretty against the Jags but they came out on top.
